That is exactly what I am doing, and this week is the last week.

Unfortuantely, I’ve bought my “last pack” of cigs three times now. But, at the beginnning of the week, I told myself that Friday was the absolute last day I could buy a pack.

I’ve got my patches for the nicotine and my arsenal of lollipops for the oral fixation. Obviously, this is not the first time I’ve undertaken the quit smoking challenge, and I’ve been somewhat successful in the past. (Successful up until the point where I break, usually due to stress or intense frustration, and buy another pack of cigs.)

The lollipops I know are critical due to times past, but this is only the second time I will be using the patch as well. I was forced to quit for a week or so last year because I was stuck in the hospital and the patch was amazing! Didn’t even really want to smoke until I got home and walked straight to the smoking stand in my living room and pulled out a pack that was already waiting there.

I feel good about it this time though; perhaps better than I have any other time. We’ll see how the weekend goes, and if I’m shamefully admitting to you on Monday morning that I failed, please don’t be too hard on me! I’m really trying!

Edited to add: So, it has taken me a little longer than planned to actually quit. But I successfully bought my last pack and started wearing the first patch on Saturday.  The This Machine Kills Cancer benefit felt like the perfect day to call it off for good.  So far, the patch is fantastic. I don’t really want to smoke for nicotine, I want to smoke out of habit, usually because it “feels” like I should be smoking. But I know that will fade with time.
